With the Milford Haven Waterway right on our doorstep, Pembrokeshire Yacht Club is a fantastic base for getting out on the water.
Whether you enjoy competitive sailing, relaxed cruising, rowing, motorboating or simply want to learn something new, the club brings together people of all ages and experience levels who share an interest in boating and watersports.
From Gellyswick Bay, members have access to one of the finest natural waterways in the UK, with sheltered bays, open stretches of water and plenty of places to explore around the Haven.
Dinghy sailing has been part of Pembrokeshire Yacht Club since the club was founded in 1923.
Today, the club continues to support both recreational and competitive dinghy sailing, with racing traditionally taking place throughout the main sailing season as well as winter events. PYC has also hosted a wide range of major sailing events and championships over the years.
Gellyswick Bay provides excellent access to the water, with a public slipway usable at most states of the tide and a variety of sailing areas suitable for different wind directions and conditions.
For those who prefer a little more space and a longer journey, PYC has a long association with yacht cruising and cruiser racing.
Members can enjoy everything from relaxed family trips around the sheltered bays of the Milford Haven Waterway to racing at local regattas and exploring further afield.
The club has a wealth of experience amongst its members and can also provide information about local boating and mooring opportunities.
Pembrokeshire Yacht Club has a thriving rowing section catering for both competitive and social rowers.
The club is affiliated with the Welsh Sea Rowing Association and crews regularly take part in Longboat League events during the summer, as well as the club’s own rowing events and regattas.
PYC uses Celtic Longboats, with crews of four rowers and a cox. From the clubhouse, rowers can explore a fantastic stretch of water with routes towards places such as Dale, Angle, Thorne Island and Blackbridge.
You don’t need previous rowing experience to get involved. New rowers are welcome and instruction is provided, making it an excellent way to improve fitness, enjoy the water and become part of the club’s social community.
The Milford Haven Waterway is also a superb place to enjoy motorboating.
From smaller boats used for fishing and exploring to larger family and cruising boats, PYC provides a convenient base close to Gellyswick slipway.
Smaller craft can be launched and recovered from the slipway at most states of the tide, while the club also offers useful facilities including boat washdown, showers and facilities for storing and maintaining boats.
For larger vessels, winter storage facilities may also be available within the club compound.
You don’t need to arrive at Pembrokeshire Yacht Club as an experienced sailor.
PYC is an RYA Recognised Training Centre and has provided sail training for both younger sailors and adults, helping people develop the confidence and skills they need to get out on the water safely. The club’s existing programme includes sail training, race coaching and powerboat training.
Whether you are starting from scratch, improving your sailing or looking to develop more advanced skills, the club aims to provide a friendly environment in which to learn.
One of PYC’s greatest advantages is its location.The club sits at Gellyswick on the Milford Haven Waterway, giving members easy access to a large and varied boating area. Sheltered waters, bays, islands and coastal scenery make it suitable for everything from a short evening sail or rowing session to a full day exploring the Haven.
